SYNOPSIS
Here’s a game: the next time you’re at the airport take a look around and count the number of people NOT on their smartphones.
Thanks to smartphones, we never have to be bored, we can never be lost, we are drowning in both information and entertainment….and we’re miserable.
Get away from tech on a regular basis.
Hand write notes for personal reflection and to other people.
Sit quietly and listen to life happening around you.
Dare to be BORED, which is the treasure chest from which nearly all great ideas have spilled forth.
Let’s talk about building parks of quiet inside the bustling city that is your life.
Nice one, Will. As a small child in Wales (UK) I was forced to attend church three times on a Sunday. Morning and evening was for ‘normal’ services and the afternoon was Sunday School. The morning and evening services lasted at least an hour and the preacher spoke for a good 20 to 30 minutes of those! “Was I BORED? You bet! But the positive side of that suffering was that I was able to deal with having nothing to do – of being able to cope with being bored and that has stood me in good stead for my 70+ years so far. Now I just love those occasions when there is actually nothing to do and I am able to value and appreciate them.
