“We don’t rent pigs”
That was the second to the final line on a hilarious sign hung outside the livery stable in my all-time favorite western Lonesome Dove.
The final line read “Uva Uvam Vivindo Varia Fit,” which is supposed to be a Latin motto although the cowboy who carved the sign not only did not know its meaning, he misspelled the quotation such that it became an Easter Egg in the novel — a hidden treat only discovered by the most Lonesome Dove fans.
